An international figure skating competition held in Romania since 1999, Crystal Skate gathered over the years familiar names of the discipline. Besides the Romanian champions like Gheorghe Chiper, Cornel Gheorghe, Zoltan Kelemen, Roxana Luca and Sabina Măriuţă, the event was attended, throughout its 15 years of existence, by Anton Kovalevski (Ukraine), Kristoffer Berntsson (Sweden), Adrian Schultheiss (Sweden), Chafik Besseghier (France), Stefania Berton (Italy; when she competed in singles), Julia Sebestyen (Hungary), Kerstin Frank (Austria), Jelena Glebova (Estonia). Last year, when medals were awarded also in ice dancing, Brasov (Romania) hosted the very well known Russian couple Elena Ilinykh and Nikita Katsalapov. They won the 2012 edition of Crystal Skate and, subsequently, the silver at the 2013 European Figure Skating Championships in Zagreb.
